Council of Europe and Ukraine to launch new Action Plan

Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Klimkin are to launch the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Ukraine 2015-2017.

In Kyiv 17-18 March, Mr. Jagland is meeting President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, other government officials, and representatives of civil society.

In the meeting with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Tuesday, the Secretary General assured the Prime Minister of his and the Council of Europe's full support for Ukraine's reform process and territorial integrity. The Secretary General and the Prime Minister agreed on the need for a comprehensive constitutional reform and full implementation of the Minsk agreements by all parties. Mr Jagland proposed that the Council of Europe provide its legal and constitutional expertise towards drafting the legislation necessary for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
