March 15, the Day of Finnish Education is marked in Kyiv. This is the official launch and presentation of the Learning Together project, which involves the support of experts from Finland of the reform of school education in Ukraine, the project is designed for 4 years.
During the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Viacheslav Kyrylenko on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Government thanked the Finnish partners for supporting the reform of school education in Ukraine. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that as an example of the reform of education Ukrainian experts had chosen the best experience of Finnish secondary school reform, "Why is it the Finnish model of secondary education? Because the experience of Finnish education is successful in Europe, and therefore important for Ukraine. Finnish education maximizes the preferences and potential of the child, forms the necessary competences in a free democratic environment. We are doing that to ensure children in our country could enter adulthood capable of applying free their knowledge and feeling love to their own country", said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Viacheslav Kyrylenko also added that under the Agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and Finland, the Finnish government provides 6 million euros of assistance to the implementation of the priorities of the New Ukrainian School, in particular for the training of teachers.
Participating in the opening ceremony were Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych, Director General at the Finnish National Agency for Education Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Ambassador of Finland to Ukraine Juha Virtanen, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Stefan Schleuning, teachers and educators from all over Ukraine, the moderator of the event was the curator of the social initiative "The Right to Education" Natalia Moseychuk.
Within the framework of the Day of Finnish Education, an exhibition of modern school equipment took place.
Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft Law of Ukraine "On General Secondary Education", which supplements the Law of Ukraine "On Education" and provides real mechanisms for implementing the reform The New Ukrainian School for students, teachers, parents and educational managers. The Government submitted the document for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
