Denys Shmyhal and Parviz Shahbazov discussed energy cooperation, diversification of gas supplies and development of logistics routes
The 14th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Uzhhorod.
As part of the event, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held talks with Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov.
The parties discussed further implementation of the agreements reached between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ilham Aliyev, as well as the results of the intergovernmental talks held in June in Baku.
Strengthening energy resilience was identified as one of the key areas of cooperation. The Ukrainian side proposed working together on equipment reserves, logistics for its delivery, standardization, and joint production. Parviz Shahbazov also noted Ukraine's technological advancements in renewable energy.
Particular attention was paid to the diversification of energy sources and supply routes. Last year, Naftogaz of Ukraine and SOCAR carried out the first deliveries of Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine. The next step is to establish regular commercial relations and long-term contracts between the companies. The Ukrainian side also offered Azerbaijani partners the possibility of storing natural gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities.
During the talks, Denys Shmyhal and Parviz Shahbazov discussed developing transportation and logistics routes between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, as well as preparing new routes for the future. The parties agreed to step up their efforts in this area.
Also, Ukraine and Azerbaijan are working on the possibility of involving Azerbaijani companies in Ukraine's recovery and modernization projects, in particular the reconstruction of critical infrastructure, and energy, industrial and social facilities.
Following the meeting, the Commission approved a joint Action Plan and agreed to hold the next meeting in Baku.
"Ukraine highly values Azerbaijan's support. I would like to thank President Ilham Aliyev, the Government and people of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Energy, Azerbaijani companies, and everyone who is contributing to our joint efforts," Denys Shmyhal said.
