The Government's main priority and the biggest challenge is energy. The enemy has used a huge amount of resources to destroy the Ukrainian energy system. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine on 12 April.

The Head of Government noted that the work was being carried out in three directions.

"The first is quick repairs and restoration of generation and distribution facilities. Repairs are underway 24/7. We are grateful to our power engineers. We are constantly coordinating our needs. Two days ago, we spoke with the G7 ambassadors. We have the support of Lithuania, which is supplying much-needed equipment, in particular for our thermal power plants. We are talking to all our partners," Denys Shmyhal said and added that the Government was working on increasing the capacity to import electricity from the EU to 2.2 GW.

The second area is the decentralisation of the energy system. According to the Prime Minister, there are already more than 120 small cogeneration units.

"Certainly, this is not enough. It is crucial to intensify cooperation with partners in this area at the regional level," the Head of Government stressed.

The third direction is to strengthen air defence. In particular, the Government has made a decision that will allow financing the purchase of electronic warfare systems for critical infrastructure.

Another global challenge for the state today is the construction of defence borders. According to the Prime Minister, on the instructions of the President, the Government has decided to allocate another UAH 3.88 billion for fortifications. In total, almost UAH 30 billion has been allocated since the beginning of the year.

"Also today, a decision was made that will allow Ukrzaliznytsia to transport concrete components for the construction of fortifications on a priority basis. This will allow us to significantly accelerate the construction of our defence borders," said Denys Shmyhal.

The Head of Government also stressed the third priority challenge - safety. According to him, there are currently more than 61,500 shelters in the country. Over the last quarter, 1,200 were added. About 87% of schools have shelters, covering 93% of students.

"We have a record amount of UAH 2.5 billion for the construction and arrangement of shelters in schools this year. Today we have approved the distribution of these funds among the regions. The priority is given to the frontline regions, which are most heavily terrorised by russian troops," the Prime Minister said.

Supporting and restoring the economy is also among the priorities.

"We actually have enough tools to accelerate economic recovery. More than UAH 40 billion has been allocated in the budget to stimulate this direction," said Denys Shmyhal.
