Government approves draft law strengthening legal protection for foreign nationals defending Ukraine
The Government has approved a draft law strengthening legal protection for foreign nationals and stateless people who have joined the defence of Ukraine, Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi announced.
“Once their military contracts end, they will have more time to regularise their legal status. The draft law extends the period of lawful temporary residence in Ukraine from three to six months. Military service will also count towards the five-year residency requirement for an immigration permit,” the Prime Minister explained.
He added that the draft law will introduce a travel document for foreign nationals who are unable to obtain or renew a passport in their country of origin because of security threats or political circumstances.
Sergii Koretskyi expressed hope that the Verkhovna Rada will consider and adopt the draft law.
