The Government's key priority now is to strengthen the energy sector after the russian terrorist attacks. This was emphasised by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on 4 June.

"The situation is extremely difficult. More than 9 GW of generation capacity has been lost. The enemy continues to attack energy facilities. Currently, Ukrenergo is once again forced to resort to scheduled power outages. This will give us time to restore and strengthen the power system," said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister noted that the Government has a strategy of five major blocks. The first is to strengthen our air defence. The second is the repair of damaged equipment and build further defences against drones. The third is the decentralisation of the energy system, where a set of measures has been developed.

"Removing customs and bureaucratic barriers to the import of generators, solar panels, drives, inverters and other equipment into Ukraine. Support for consumers who will install their personal generation facilities, in particular through the provision of soft loans. Each regional centre should have facilities to supply power to critical infrastructure. We are talking about dozens of mini-CHPs across the country," the Prime Minister said.

The fourth block is international support and cooperation. According to the Prime Minister, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund already has more than EUR 494 million in transferred and announced contributions.

"We expect that there will be much more. In particular, Australia has recently declared more than USD 12 million in contributions, and Sweden has announced a contribution of EUR 42 million. Estonia will send Ukraine an entire power unit of a 200 MW thermal power plant," said Denys Shmyhal, adding that Ukraine was also working to expand imports from Europe to 2.2 GW.

The fifth block is energy efficiency and responsible electricity consumption. According to the Head of Government, the goal is to save money at all levels, from large enterprises to individual houses and apartments: "The consequences of russian attacks on the energy sector are long-term. Therefore, saving will be part of our everyday life in the coming years."
