February 14-15 in Kyiv, the Secretariat of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM hosts a regional seminar titled Together Against Criminal Manipulation of Sports Competitions.
The event, organized for the GUAM member states, is carried out within the framework of the Council of Europe project Keep Crime out of Sport + (KCOOS +) in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and with the technical support of the Secretariat.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport on European Integration Mykola Movchan addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. He assured the participants that Ukraine supported the rigid position of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the European Union, UNESCO, the International Olympic Committee in the struggle against criminal manipulation in sports and actively participates in all international events and agreements aimed at confronting this threat.
The regional workshop was organized in order to provide countries with practical and technical assistance in implementing measures for the creation of national platforms and combating the manipulation of the results of competitions, in accordance with the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions, as well as the introduction of other appropriate measures for the ratification and implementation of the Convention.
About 40 participants - representatives of ministries and departments, sports federations, national Olympic committees of Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova will discuss the current state of the struggle against manipulation of sports competitions at the national level and mechanisms for combating this phenomenon during two days.
