At an extraordinary meeting on March 6, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the candidacy of the head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. Following the selection process by the Selection Commission, and after conversations between the three candidates and the Prime Minister, the Government appointed Semen Kryvonos as NABU Director.
“A transparent competition was held. Half of the Selection Commission members are representatives of our international partners. All meetings of the Commission were broadcast. Tests, knowledge of the law, practical assignments, integrity checks of candidates. All this was done,” said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Following the results of the selection process, the Commission shortlisted three candidates for the position of NABU Director and submitted them to the Prime Minister of Ukraine. According to Article 7(10) of the Law of Ukraine “On the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine”, upon submission of the proposal by the Prime Minister of Ukraine to appoint a candidate for the position of NABU Director, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine appoints such a person to the position of NABU Director at an open meeting.
Based on objective indicators (the amount of points scored by the candidates) and after personal communication, the Head of Government submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine a proposal to appoint Semen Kryvonos as Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
As emphasized by the Prime Minister, with the appointment of NABU Director, Ukraine has fulfilled all seven recommendations of the European Union, which were identified upon granting the candidate status. According to Denys Shmyhal, this is an evidence of our country’s determination to start negotiations on accession to the EU this year.
“With the appointment of NABU Director, we now have a fully formed, functioning and independent anti-corruption infrastructure. This demonstrates the commitment of our team to the principle of zero tolerance to corruption and support for anti-corruption institutions,” the Head of Government said.
