Cooperation between Ukraine and USAID is an important element of energy security: German Galushchenko

Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko together with Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov met with Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power. The meeting was also attended by U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Oksana Markarova, Deputy Administrator for Policy and Programming at USAID Isobel Coleman, USAID Ukraine Mission Director James Hope, and others.

German Galushchenko thanked the United States for the provided technical and financial assistance. “We highly appreciate the long and successful history of cooperation between USAID and the Ministry of Energy,” he said.

The Minister stressed that synchronization of the Ukrainian energy system with the European one a year ahead of schedule had become an additional impetus for further integration of energy markets. “This all creates more opportunities for strengthening energy security and sustainability of Ukraine’s energy sector and the European continent in the future. We are grateful to USAID for the assistance provided in this area,” said German Galushchenko.

The participants of the meeting discussed the current needs of the Ukrainian energy sector, which was severely affected by russian attacks. German Galushchenko stressed that international partners significantly assist Ukraine in supplying the necessary equipment. Besides, they contribute to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund established under the Energy Community Secretariat, which is used to purchase equipment and materials for restoration of energy infrastructure. The Minister stressed the importance of rapid procurement of equipment through the Fund, which is carried out by the USAID Energy Security Project.

The Minister also spoke about the priorities of Ukraine’s energy sector development: “Along with addressing priority needs, we are making plans for a large-scale modernization of Ukraine’s energy sector. In this process, we remain committed to the goals of sustainable energy transition.”

The parties also discussed the importance of intensifying work with investors to implement projects in the energy sector.
