Preparing the Ukrainian energy system for an ‘energy visa-free regime’ with the EU is one of the key tasks currently facing the Government. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized during the Question Time for the Government in the Verkhovna Rada on February 18.
"Technically, we are almost 100% ready for Ukraine to join the European energy system in 2023. Our colleagues from the World Bank have estimated the economic benefits of synchronization with ENTSO-E at $ 1.5 billion annually," said Denys Shmyhal.
According to the Prime Minister, systematic tests of the isolated mode of operation of the Ukrainian power system are planned for the end of February - it will operate without connection to the CIS power network.
"In addition, we will get five clear benefits: energy independence and security, transparency and demonopolization, export opportunities, decarbonization, upgrading outdated infrastructure and developing new technologies, including energy storage," told Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister added that the Government had two other critical priorities in the energy domain: domestic gas production and the thermal modernization program.
