The academic year should start on September 1 in offline where possible, and the protective structures of the civil defense of educational institutions should be made ready for use as intended. The conference call with heads of regions chaired by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal was dedicated to considering such issues.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk, Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Chernyshov, Minister of Education and Science Serhii Shkarlet, Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyy, head of the State Emergency Service Serhii Kruk and others.
"The safety of children is the most important task in preparing educational institutions for the school year. All recommendations have already been developed. Shelters must have heat, light, ventilation, water and everything for a comfortable stay during a prolonged air raid siren. Training children and staff on proper behavior during an emergency should become regular," Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
The Prime Minister heard information from the Minister of Education and Science and the head of the State Emergency Service regarding the state of readiness of educational institutions and shelters for the academic year. The Minister of Internal Affairs also focused on security issues in schools. Among the innovations planned for the new academic year is the installation of an alarm button in schools for contacting the National Police.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the new academic year should start in full-time mode. Where this is not possible, in particular in frontline areas and border communities, online training will take place. The Head of the Government also tasked the Ministry of Internal Affairs to work out the possibility of using public transport under certain conditions to provide services for transporting children to and from educational institutions.
With regards to the preparation of educational institutions for the academic year, the participants of the meeting discussed the issue of temporary accommodation of internally displaced persons in the buildings of educational institutions. According to the Ministry of Education and Culture, 56,000 people currently live in educational institutions.
The regional military administrations, for their part, should develop plans for the placement of IDPs in other premises.
