Oleksii Kuleba: Major scheduled road repairs on state highways have been completed

Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, posted 03 June 2026 20:05

The main scheduled works to repair road surface damage on Ukraine’s state highways have been completed. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 14 million square metres of road surface have been repaired. Despite challenging weather conditions and security risks, repair works continued across all regions of the country.

This is the first time since the start of the full-scale war that such a scale and pace of road repairs has been achieved. For comparison, the total area repaired between the beginning of the year and May in previous years amounted to:

  • 2022 – 1.3 million sq m
  • 2023 – 1.1 million sq m
  • 2024 – 0.9 million sq m
  • 2025 – 1.7 million sq m
  • 2026 – 13.9 million sq m.

The works were carried out on key logistics routes that support passenger transport, humanitarian deliveries, business activity and the country’s defence capabilities.

“We have completed priority measures to restore the country’s key highways. Extensive works were carried out on roads connecting different regions and serving as transport corridors to EU countries. Today, roads are about far more than convenience – they are a matter of national security and economic resilience, and an essential element of support for our Defence Forces. At the same time, repair works will continue,” said Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba.

Further road restoration efforts will focus on frontline regions, particularly roads that are critical for military logistics, evacuation operations, humanitarian routes and the supply of frontline and border communities. The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, together with the General Staff, has already prepared a priority list of roads based on military logistics needs. A separate Cabinet of Ministers resolution is being prepared to secure funding for their restoration.

Over the past 24 hours alone, road surface damage covering more than 81,800 square metres has been repaired.

The largest volumes of work were carried out on the following highways:

  • M06 Kyiv–Chop
  • M05 Kyiv–Odesa
  • M14 Odesa–Melitopol–Novoazovsk
  • M29 Kharkiv–Krasnohrad–Pereshchepyne–Dnipro
  • M21 Vystupovychi–Zhytomyr–Mohyliv-Podilskyi

On 3 June, more than 80 repair crews and over 900 workers were deployed on highways across the country.

As the priority works to eliminate road surface defects have now been completed, further preventive maintenance and repair works will continue.
