Moldova reduces transit costs for Ukrainian cargo by 50% until year-end

The governments of Ukraine and Moldova have agreed to reduce the cost of transit for Ukrainian cargo transported by rail through Moldova by 50% until the end of 2026. This important decision will allow Ukrainian businesses to lower logistics expenses and make broader use of alternative routes for export and import against the backdrop of russia’s escalating situation in the Black Sea.

The agreement was achieved thanks to the systematic work of Ukraine’s Ministry for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport, together with “Ukrzaliznytsia” and the Government of Moldova. In particular, the issue of developing transit routes and creating more favorable conditions for transporting Ukrainian cargo had been discussed during the meeting of Ukraine’s Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport Mykola Kalashnyk with Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Bolea.

“For us, it is fundamentally important to ensure Ukrainian business has access to the maximum number of logistics routes. At a time when russian attacks on Odesa’s port infrastructure and civilian vessels are intensifying, we are systematically working to expand alternative paths for export and import. The agreement with Moldova on a 50% discount for transit is a concrete result of this work and an example of effective cooperation between our countries. We will continue to develop such routes and seek solutions to ensure stable cargo logistics,” stated Ukraine’s Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport Mykola Kalashnyk.

Through Moldova’s territory, Ukrainian cargo can be directed to the port of Reni, Moldovan ports on the Danube, as well as Romanian ports. This route is an important component of alternative logistics and helps maintain the stability of Ukrainian exports, including grain, ore, and other products.

At the same time, preferential transit conditions will also be significant for import shipments. Lower transportation costs will help Ukrainian businesses optimize logistics expenses and ensure the stability of critically important supplies.

Ukraine continues systematic work with international partners to develop alternative transport routes, diversify logistics, and strengthen the resilience of Ukrainian exports and imports. Expanding transit opportunities through neighboring countries is an important part of the Government’s efforts to secure uninterrupted logistics under wartime conditions.
