Denys Shmyhal: The main source of Ukraine's recovery should be the confiscated assets of russia
The recovery plan for Ukraine is currently estimated at USD 750 billion dollars, and the main source of reconstruction of our state should be the confiscated assets of russia. This was emphasized by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during the International Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano, Switzerland.
"We believe that the key source of recovery should be the confiscated assets of russia and russian oligarchs. The russian authorities unleashed this bloody war. They caused these large-scale destructions and they should be held accountable for it," stressed Denys Shmyhal.
As the Head of Government noted, russia's frozen assets, according to various estimates, amount to between USD 300 and 500 billion. Moreover, some countries have already launched procedures for the confiscation of these assets.
"We are grateful to Germany for the first steps. We are grateful to Canada and the USA for the preparation of national legislation. I believe that all partner countries will join this process and ensure this justice," the Prime Minister said.
Denys Shmyhal also named other sources of recovery of Ukraine, which are being worked on. In particular, grants and soft loans from international financial organizations and partner countries. Moreover, the sources can also be private sector investments, off-budget contributions of private individuals and corporations, and funds from the state budget of Ukraine.
"The United24 platform has triggered and proved very effective in Ukraine. We are grateful to everyone who participated and we urge you not to stop in this support," the Head of Government emphasized.
