Arseniy Yatsenyuk: UAH 3 billion out of USD1.5 billion from the assets of the Yanukovych's regime should be directed as additional financing for the National Police
Out of the USD 1.5 billion assets plundered by the former regime of
Yanukovych the sum of UAH3 billion should be directed to additional financing
for the National Police. The Government expects the Parliament adopt the
relevant law, while judiciary and law enforcement agencies –confiscate these
funds and transfer to the budget. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said
during an oath taking ceremony of the patrol police officers at the city of
Boryspil on Thursday, March 24.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk said
that the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen
Avakov had appealed to the Government with a request
to increase funding to the National Police by UAH 3 billion to complete the
reform.
He noted that the
source for such assistance would become the assets of the former regime of
Viktor Yanukovych totalling USD 1.5
billion that the Government of Ukraine had arrested a year before.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk
emphasized the Government awaited the Ukraine’s Parliament would adopt the
respective law while the judicial and law enforcement systems would confiscate
these funds, transfer to the budget, which would enable "part of the funds
to be spent to the national security and defense and
to ensure additional financing of the National Police".
"We’re facing
huge challenges. Russia has not stopped the war against Ukraine. Global
terrorism is engulfing Europe. Each police officer, thus performing his sacred
duty, protects the country and protects every citizen. But on the part of the
Government we should prolong financing a reform of the National Police and that
of the Armed Forces of the country and each particular reform, from health care
to education," stressed the Head of Government.
