Geoffrey Pyatt: A new patrol service in Kyiv will set an example for other cities
US Ambassador to
Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt has visited a coordination center for the applicants to fill vacancies in the newly
established Interior Ministry’s subdivision. First Deputy Interior Minister Eka Zguladze familiarized the
American diplomat with the premises of the centre and an order of work.
According to Geoffrey
Pyatt, he, like all the inhabitants of Kyiv, sees how
the police influences state of law and order.
"The principal
goal of Maidan is the rule of law, and what Eka Zguladze together with the Minister of Internal Affairs are doing is what people wanted. I will wait for early
summer, when the new police replaces SAI [State Automobile Inspection – ed.]”, Geoffrey
Pyatt said.
The patrol service project
is implemented in Kyiv with the support of the U.S. Government and appears an
attempt to build a new police structure. The core principles of its activity include:
no corruption, transparency, accountability and the rule of law. Best American experts
who can share their experience with their Ukrainian colleagues will arrive to
Ukraine.

According to First
Deputy Interior Minister Eka Zguladze,
given the difficult economic situation within the country, material and
technical support will primarily be improved for the reformed subdivisions. With
time, the reform process will cover all the regions of the country. Eka Zguladze expressed
gratitude to the United States for the rendered support. She also noted that there
had been already registered about 4 thousand applicants for the newly created
unit. |
