Vsevolod Chentsov presents EU member states with Ukraine's progress on reforms on the path to membership
On Tuesday, 22 September 2026, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Vsevolod Chentsov met in Brussels with representatives of the Council of the EU's Working Party on Enlargement (COELA).
The Deputy Prime Minister presented the current state of Ukraine's fulfillment of its commitments under the EU accession negotiation process, including legislative work, rule-of-law reforms, and the implementation of commitments on the protection of national minorities' rights.
"We are moving into the stage of practical implementation of a large body of commitments: at this stage, every priority of the negotiation process must be translated into concrete legislative and governmental decisions. To that end, we are strengthening coordination between the Government and Parliament and continuing to work closely with the European Commission and member states," Vsevolod Chentsov said.
As of 15 September, 114 EU integration-related draft laws were at various stages of consideration in the Verkhovna Rada. The Government and Parliament are introducing a more systematic approach to this work, including jointly defining legislative priorities, regular coordination, and planning in line with the National Programme for the Adaptation of Ukrainian Legislation to EU Law.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the implementation of rule-of-law reforms. Ukraine is working on priority tasks covering, among other things, criminal justice, the independence and capacity of anti-corruption bodies, prosecutorial reform, judicial selection, the integrity of the judiciary, and anti-corruption policy.
Ukraine also continues to work closely with the European Commission on meeting interim benchmarks within the negotiation process. This includes the systematic coordination of reforms, monitoring their implementation, and the timely resolution of issues requiring additional attention.
The Deputy Prime Minister also briefed member state representatives on Ukraine's fulfillment of its commitments regarding the protection of national minorities' rights. The Government has updated the relevant Action Plan, with agreed steps providing for measures in the field of education by the end of 2026, and in the language sphere and the sphere of political rights in 2027. This work is being carried out in consultation with representatives of national minorities, the European Commission, and member states.
