Moldova and Ukraine explore joint solutions for safe medicines storage and support for Ukraine’s healthcare system

Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine Victor Chirilă. The parties discussed further development of bilateral cooperation in healthcare, particularly in public health, transplantation, medical education, pharmaceutical logistics, and forensic medicine.

Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for European Integration Vasyl Strilka and Deputy Minister of Health and Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin also attended the meeting.

“We are deeply grateful to the Republic of Moldova for its consistent and unwavering support for Ukraine amid Russia’s full-scale aggression. We particularly value the humanitarian assistance provided and the support extended to Ukrainians who have found refuge in Moldova. It is important for us to continue strengthening our cooperation and jointly implementing concrete healthcare initiatives,” said Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko.

One of the key topics was strengthening pharmaceutical logistics. In particular, the parties discussed the possibility of establishing logistics hubs for the proper storage and distribution of medicines before their onward delivery to Ukraine. This would help decentralize medicine stocks and reduce the risk of losses caused by Russian attacks.

The parties also discussed expanding cooperation in medical education and strengthening Ukraine’s forensic medicine capacity. In particular, they explored involving additional specialists from Moldova in conducting forensic examinations in Ukraine.

Further discussions focused on deepening cooperation in cardiology, transplantation, and public health. Moldova expressed interest in learning from Ukraine’s experience in heart transplantation, as well as pursuing joint initiatives in epidemiological and laboratory surveillance, combating antimicrobial resistance, and responding to cross-border health threats.

Practical cooperation will include knowledge sharing, joint training activities, and partnerships between healthcare institutions and universities in both countries.

To formalize the priority areas of cooperation, Ukraine and Moldova plan to sign a Declaration on Cooperation between the two countries’ ministries of health. The draft document has already been submitted to the Moldovan side for consideration.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine continues its systematic efforts to expand international cooperation and mobilize support from partners to strengthen Ukraine’s healthcare system.

As previously reported, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Hennadii Nersesian recently met with representatives of the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV). The parties discussed further development of the Ukrainian-Estonian healthcare partnership, including support for healthcare facilities, rehabilitation, medical education, and the professional development of healthcare specialists.
