The European Union directs 447 generators to the capital and frontline communities
The European Union is sending 447 generators to the capital and frontline communities. The delivery is being carried out through the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) from rescEU reserves (Poland) and is being implemented in cooperation with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society. In total, the aid includes 445 low-power generators and two high-power generators with a total value of EUR 3.7 million.
The equipment received will be distributed by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Red Cross Society, among Kyiv and frontline communities to support heating and water supply services, particularly in educational, social, and medical institutions, shelters, and warming centers. In general, it is intended for the capital, as well as Kyiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions.
The aid is aimed at strengthening the resilience of communities, ensuring the continuous operation of critical and social infrastructure, and providing people with access to basic services amid ongoing russian attacks.
The equipment will help boiler rooms, water supply facilities, treatment plants, and artesian wells operate so that people have access to heat and water amid russian attacks.
"Ukraine is experiencing its most difficult winter since the start of the full-scale war. The russian federation continues to deliberately destroy our energy infrastructure as well as housing and communal services. Support from our partners allows us to maintain the provision of basic services - heat and water. We are grateful to the European Commission and the ERCC for their important assistance, which strengthens the resilience of communities and the country as a whole," said Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine - Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba.
At the same time, the European Commission emphasized that supporting Ukraine in the face of targeted attacks on its energy infrastructure remains one of the European Union's priorities, especially during such a difficult winter.
"russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure are deliberately depriving civilians of heat, light, and basic services in the middle of winter. Even during war, people should be able to live with dignity. By mobilising generators from the rescEU reserves, the European Union is once again showing solidarity with the Ukrainian people and helping to keep vital services running when they are most needed," said Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality Hadja Lahbib.
The equipment will arrive in Ukraine within a week.
