Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced extra support for people in Kyiv and the Kyiv region who are having trouble with heating and gas supplies because of damage to the energy infrastructure.

In the absence of heat in homes without gas supply, people are unable to prepare hot meals. On behalf of the Government, the State Emergency Service has prepared 41 mobile kitchens for operation. Four of them are already operating and providing meals to SES employees — dozens of specialists sent from different regions of Ukraine to deal with the consequences of the energy crisis.

Another 37 kitchens are ready for emergency deployment in the city.

In total, there are 56 hot food distribution points operating in Kyiv. The food is prepared by representatives of World Central Kitchen and the Red Cross, with whom the State Emergency Service has signed memoranda of cooperation. Over the course of a week, people received more than 26,000 hot meals.

If necessary and at the request of the city authorities, the State Emergency Service, together with partner organizations, will set up new food distribution points near the resilience points1.

In the Kyiv region, in areas with a difficult situation with the restoration of heat and light, food has also been organized:

- in Brovary, a food truck is operating, providing up to 16,000 meals per day;

- in Irpin, a kitchen train from Ukrzaliznytsia is operating, preparing and distributing about 4,000 meals daily.

“Thank you to everyone who is helping communities during this period of disruptions in energy supply following enemy shelling. It is important that people receive all the support they need, even amid the difficult situation in the energy sector,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.
