Sergii Marchenko met with UK Ambassador to Ukraine Neil Crompton

Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Ukraine Neil Crompton.

Deputy Ministers of Finance Olga Zykova, Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa, Development Director in Ukraine for the FCDO Andrew Peter Ockenden, and representatives of the British Embassy also took part in the meeting.

The Minister of Finance expressed gratitude to the UK Government for its comprehensive and consistent support of our country.

“The United Kingdom remains one of the leaders in supporting Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have received USD 3.83 billion in direct budget support. In 2026, this amount reached USD 798 million. We are especially grateful for the large-scale financing of defence needs, the strict sanctions policy against the russian federation, and leadership in implementing the mechanism for using the proceeds from immobilised russian assets (ERA). This assistance is critically important for ensuring our macro-financial and fiscal stability,” noted Sergii Marchenko.

During the meeting, the parties discussed Ukraine’s current external financing needs and the key parameters for preparing the draft State Budget for 2027. The Minister of Finance emphasised the importance of consistent and timely support from international partners and the mobilisation of new financial instruments to cover the state’s priority expenditures next year.

The participants paid special attention to the implementation of joint investment and defence projects supported by the UK Government, particularly through the mechanisms of UK Export Finance (UKEF). A significant part of these resources is strategically directed towards strengthening the capabilities of Ukraine’s security and defence sector. In addition, initiatives to rebuild critical infrastructure were discussed, including a project to restore bridges in the Kyiv region.

Sergii Marchenko also thanked the UK for its unwavering position in increasing sanctions pressure on russia, in particular the steps taken against the shadow fleet and individuals involved in crimes against Ukrainian children. In turn, Neil Crompton assured the UK’s readiness to continue close coordination and comprehensive support for Ukraine.
