Today, the Government held a dedicated meeting on veteran policy and adopted 11 decisions to support veterans and their families, announced Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.

In particular, the Government approved a draft law on the foundations of state veteran policy, which defines the statuses of veterans and their families and guarantees medical, educational, social, and legal support. The draft law also provides for veteran spaces, services funded by the state budget, and commemoration of fallen heroes.

At the same time, according to the Prime Minister, all existing benefits and documents remain valid.

The Government also supported a draft law concerning individuals who have defended Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

“This autumn, we expect these draft laws to be adopted as part of the Code of Laws on Ukraine’s Defenders,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.

Regarding the provision of medical services, the Government made the following decisions:

  • Approved the launch of an adaptation programme for veterans who have lost their sight;
  • Simplified access to rehabilitation aids, such as wheelchairs, white canes, and other special equipment;
  • Supported the right to free dental treatment for foreign military personnel who are or have been fighting in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Additionally, the Government decided that the state will compensate 50% of mandatory car insurance for veterans and individuals with disabilities resulting from the war.

“I am pleased to see the coordinated efforts of ministries to ensure every veteran has the opportunity to recover and realise their potential,” emphasised the Prime Minister.
