Government enhances support mechanisms for servicemembers returning from russian captivity
On 6 August, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine updated the procedure for providing assistance to servicemembers returning from russian captivity. The aim is to create a more systematic and needs-sensitive approach to their reintegration process. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
“Servicemembers returning from russian captivity must have access to comprehensive state support. We have drawn on the expertise of security and defence forces to make the reintegration process more effective and humane,” stated the Prime Minister.
Key changes include:
- Expanded initial medical examinations upon return from captivity, including an increased range of medical services;
- Ensured documentation of injuries and trauma sustained during captivity;
- Introduction of a more effective mechanism for preventing infectious diseases.
“Yesterday, during a working meeting with representatives of civil society organisations, we discussed how to ensure that all Heroes who have endured captivity receive assistance tailored to their actual needs. The state must care, and every returnee should feel this,” emphasised Yulia Svyrydenko.
The updated procedure will improve coordination among state authorities, enhance the quality of medical, psychological, and social support, and facilitate a faster adaptation to civilian life for released defenders.
