  • Update on liquidation of the emergency situation connected with forest fires in the territory of Luhansk region (as of 7:00 a.m. on October 6)

    The activities to extinguish fires that broke out on September 30 and October 1 are underway in Luhansk region.

    The most difficult situation developed along the line of demarcation in the territory of Stanychno-Luhansk, Novoaidar, Severodonetsk areas, where 32 settlements fell into the affected area.

    The main efforts of the SES were aimed at protecting the settlements, field artillery of the Armed Forces near the village Borovenky and gas distribution station on the outskirts of the village of Olexandrivka. Due to the integrated use of ground forces and aircraft, the fire was prevented from spreading to settlements, and there occurred no need for evacuation.

    As of 7 a.m. on October 6, out of 10 main foci of forest, reeds and dry vegetation fires, 8 foci were eliminated, 2 fronts of fire was contained.

    According to preliminary estimates, the approximate area covered by the fire of all 10 foci is more than 20 thousand hectares.

    During October 5, 97 water discharges (320 tons of water) were made by SES aircraft in Luhansk region. Since the beginning of firefighting 588 discharges (1,906 tons of water) were conducted.

    150 people were evacuated during firefighting.

    During the forest fires, the bodies of 11 people were found, of which: 3 people died as a result of poisoning by combustion products, 1 person - from burns, 3 people - due to heart attacks and 4 people, the cause of death is being established. 19 people were injured (including 3 SES officers).

    Information on the destruction and damage of residential buildings and infrastructure is being clarified by local authorities.

    A total of 1,300 rescuers and 251 units of equipment were involved in the firefighting, in particular: from SES – almost 500 personnel, 120 units of equipment (Luhansk, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kirovohrad, Poltava and Kharkiv regions), including 3 AN-32 P aircraft and 2 SES helicopters.
