The Government is stepping up its efforts to combat the shadow economy, working together with law enforcement agencies and the tax and customs services. The Interagency Working Group has determined further measures, and the responsible bodies have received corresponding instructions. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi.

In particular, the changes concern the customs clearance of humanitarian aid and are intended to prevent abuse.

"Humanitarian aid must reach those who need it quickly, not serve as a cover for illegal imports," the Head of the Government emphasized.

An updated, substantiated list of the goods to which the changes will apply will be determined shortly.

Another focus area is stronger work by the tax and customs services and the Economic Security Bureau with high-risk taxpayers.

The key concern is tax evasion schemes based on the artificial splitting of businesses. Large retail chains distribute their turnover among dozens or even hundreds of sole proprietors, thereby avoiding VAT.

"This problem must be resolved by the law enforcement system," Sergii Koretskyi said.

These steps will help secure the revenues the budget needs and level the playing field for law-abiding businesses that keep the economy going in wartime.
