During the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba held a meeting with Germany’s Federal Minister of Transport, Patrick Schnieder.

The parties discussed support for Ukraine’s transport sector, infrastructure recovery, logistics development, and the launch of the Ukraine Transport Support Fund.

The day before, during a high-level roundtable, Germany announced its readiness to contribute to the Fund – a mechanism designed to support the restoration of Ukraine’s transport infrastructure.

“We discussed in detail the next steps and the selection of projects for support. We agreed to finalise decisions in the near future and move on to practical implementation. Germany remains one of Ukraine’s key partners in restoring transport infrastructure and developing a new logistical architecture between Ukraine and Europe,” noted Oleksii Kuleba.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the German Government for its consistent support of Ukraine’s transport sector.

In particular, Ukraine recently received the first 13 vehicles for Ukrainian railway workers from its German partners. The overall assistance package includes 18 vehicles, 32 generators, and 18 units of construction machinery for the needs of the transport infrastructure.

Special attention during the meeting was given to the resilience of Ukrainian logistics and the scale of damage inflicted on transport infrastructure as a result of russian aggression.

The parties also discussed further cooperation in the railway sector, the renewal of Ukrzaliznytsia’s rolling stock, and possible financing mechanisms for the purchase of new electric locomotives.

In addition, the meeting addressed the development of road freight transport between Ukraine and the European Union, maritime logistics, and the restoration of port and river infrastructure.
