The fourth underground school in the region was opened in the village of Balabine, 15 km from Zaporizhzhia. More than 1,000 students will be able to study here in two shifts, including students of the Balabyne Lyceum “Prestige” and the Malokaterynivka Gymnasium “Mriya”.

The project was implemented at the expense of a state subvention as part of the comprehensive School Offline policy.

Reliability, autonomy, comfort: how the school is equipped

• The monolithic structure was reinforced to improve reliability.
• An autonomous power supply was provided to ensure stable operation.
• A modern ventilation system, interactive teaching equipment and comfortable furniture have been installed.
• Conditions have been created for healthy nutrition of children.

Construction of underground schools continues

In 2024, the Government allocated UAH 2.5 billion in subventions and UAH 5 billion in subsidies for the construction of shelters.

In total, at least 21 underground schools are planned to be built in Zaporizhzhia region, which will provide education for 60,000 children.

Underground schools are not just shelters, but full-fledged educational spaces that guarantee children a stable education even in the most difficult conditions.
