Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity prepares final decisions on introduction of Law No. 4067, says Liudmyla Shemelynets
First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, Liudmyla Shemelynets, took part in an international conference dedicated to Ukraine's chairmanship of the Global Alliance to Prevent Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI Alliance).
The event brought together First Lady Olena Zelenska, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka, government officials, MPs, and international organisations.
During the panel discussion "Joint Efforts for Justice," Liudmyla Shemelynets emphasised the need for a coordinated approach by the state and its partners to provide full support to victims of sexual violence, particularly those related to conflict.
"Ukraine has an extensive network of social services prepared to provide support to victims, and the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity, together with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, is developing a clear algorithm of actions – from appeal to the provision of medical, psychological and social assistance with guaranteed confidentiality," she said.
According to the First Deputy Minister, the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity held another meeting of the working group on the implementation of Law No. 4067, which was attended by more than 50 representatives of government agencies, public organisations and experts. During the discussion, proposals were developed to improve mechanisms for supporting victims and ensuring full implementation of the law.
‘We are summarising the recommendations received and drafting final decisions. If necessary, we will organise additional discussions to ensure the most effective and complete implementation of the law," emphasised Liudmyla Shemelynets.
She added that the key task of the state should be to create conditions under which people who have suffered from sexual violence, particularly conflict-related sexual violence, feel safe, know their rights, and have access to the full range of necessary services.
During the conference, it was also announced that the chairmanship of the Global Alliance to Prevent Sexual Violence in Conflict would be transferred to the Democratic Republic of Congo, which will continue to work on the priorities initiated by Ukraine.
To recap, Denys Uliutin met with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict in the United States.
