Ministry of Energy: The only way to restore nuclear safety and stability in the region is complete demilitarization of Zaporizhzhia NPP
On August 10, the Zaporizhzhia NPP External Crisis Center was hit by a russian attack on Zaporizhzhia. Fortunately, none of the employees were injured, but the office building was partially destroyed.
The External Crisis Center is an integral part of the plant's security system. Under conditions when the occupation management of ZNPP blocks the automatic transmission of data on the nuclear and radiation situation through the IAEA IRMIS system, it is the specialists of this center who continuously monitor the radiation situation in the observation zone on the territory controlled by Ukraine.
We emphasize that the only way to restore nuclear safety and stability in the region is the complete demilitarization of Zaporizhzhia NPP and its return under the full control of the legitimate operator, Energoatom.
“The attack on the infrastructure that monitors the radiation situation is another proof of the irresponsible policy of the aggressor, which disregards all norms of international law. The russians once again prove that their actions pose a real threat to nuclear safety not only in Ukraine but also in the entire European continent,” said Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine calls on international organizations and foreign partners to increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor and take immediate measures to stop shelling of Ukrainian nuclear infrastructure.
