Investments in the development of waste treatment infrastructure in Ukraine and cooperation with Germany were the topic of communication between Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, and Martin Jäger, Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine, as well as heads of investment companies with over 45 years of experience in waste management, which have participated in the development of waste treatment infrastructure in Austria, Turkey, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Egypt.
According to Ruslan Strilets, Austria’s experience is considered one of the most successful in the EU in waste management and shows that waste treatment infrastructure can be environmentally friendly.
“I heard from them a real willingness to invest in the development of waste treatment infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk region. The cluster will consist of 5 plants that will collectively process over 470,000 tonnes of waste per year. The project is worth over EUR 155 million. There is a real readiness and interest of the communities here, so the project is actively moving forward. It is important that investors come with an understanding of how it should work in a particular area and offer specific solutions. This means that the Ministry’s team has done a tremendous job over the past year and a half in preparing the regions for the reform and attracting investment in the development of waste infrastructure,” said Ruslan Strilets.
The Minister called on all other regions to join the development of the waste management system in Ukraine. “I am confident that Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Odesa, Kyiv and Zakarpattia regions will be good examples for other regions and they will also follow this path. Ukraine will finally get more than 200 new modern European-style plants. I am grateful to the investors for a productive meeting and to German Ambassador Martin Jäger for his continued support of Ukraine,” said Ruslan Strilets.
