Oleksandr Mischenko held a meeting with NATO Parliamentary Assembly Delegation

On September 7, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mischenko met with a delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly headed by Marko Mihkelson, Co-Chair of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council (UNIC) and Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu of Estonia.

Oleksandr Mischenko expressed gratitude for the consistent support provided to Ukraine by the parliaments of NATO member states, emphasizing that this assistance is a contribution to the common security of the entire Euro-Atlantic area.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the security situation and diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine. The Deputy Minister stressed that Ukraine has never been and will never be an obstacle to peace.

Oleksandr Mischenko also noted that russia has demonstrated no genuine willingness to stop its terror against the civilians and continues to attack people, Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure on a daily basis.

In this context, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons, including air defence systems, to repel attacks by russian ballistic missiles. At the same time, ensuring the sustainable functioning of the PURL initiative, through which Ukraine receives more than 90% of missile interceptors, remains an important element of strengthening Ukraine’s air defence capabilities.

The parties also focused on the need to maintain economic pressure on the aggressor state, including by strengthening sanctions and countering russia’s “shadow fleet”.

For his part, Marko Mihkelson and members of the delegation reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine and expressed their readiness to continue and further increase assistance through the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as at the level of national parliaments of NATO member states.

The parties underscored the importance of continuing to translate political decisions into concrete actions aimed at building a common and secure Euro-Atlantic space.

The meeting was also attended by Yehor Cherniev, Member of Parliament of Ukraine and Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence.
