  • Denys Shmyhal and Kaja Kallas discussed the development of Ukrainian-Estonian cooperation

    The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas during her official visit to Ukraine on May 17.

    Denys Shmyhal stressed that Estonia is a reliable friend and important partner of Ukraine on a wide range of issues. He added that Ukraine seeks to intensify trade and economic cooperation with Estonia.

    In addition, the Prime Minister of Ukraine thanked the Estonian side for providing financial assistance to support Ukrainian territories affected by Russian aggression, support the social sphere and assistance in overcoming the coronavirus pandemic.

    "Estonia is one of the leaders in terms of providing financial assistance to Ukraine. We are especially grateful for the support of humanitarian projects in Ukraine for over EUR 500 thousand this year. This assistance will be directed primarily to vulnerable people, children and internally displaced persons in eastern Ukraine," stressed Denys Shmyhal.

    The parties also raised the issue of vaccination against COVID-19. The Head of the Ukrainian Government commended the strong support of Estonia in the framework of international initiatives on the fair distribution of vaccines.

    Besides, Denys Shmyhal and Kaja Kallas discussed countering hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation. The parties stressed the importance of sharing experiences in the field of cybersecurity.

    "We highly appreciate Estonia's staunch support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the context of Russia's continued aggression. Your planned visit to Luhansk region is a powerful signal of support and attention," said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

    The Ukrainian Prime Minister also thanked Estonia for its readiness to take an active part in the Crimean Platform.

    For her part, Kaja Kallas noted that the policy of non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea is extremely important for Estonia, and they welcome the initiatives to launch the Crimean Platform. The Estonian Prime Minister added that Ukraine remains the largest development partner and Estonia expresses readiness to back and assist Ukraine in pursuing the reforms policy.
