Valeriy Voschevsky: Government engages Institute of Geological Sciences in reforming State Service of Geology

Experts of the Institute of Geological Sciences and other relevant research organizations of the National Academy of Geological Sciences of Ukraine will take part in carrying out reform of  the State Service for Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine. This was announced by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Voschevsky.

The Vice Prime Minister held a meeting with director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of Ukraine, academician Petro Hozhyk, during which they discussed issues concerning ways to restore the geological industry of Ukraine.

Thus, the meeting agreed to involve the Institute of Geological Sciences and other relevant scientific organizations of the National Academy of Geological Sciences of Ukraine to the issues of recovery of the geological industry, including reform of the State Service for Geology and Mineral Resources.

"We are to engage experienced geologists to the management of the State Service for Geology and Mineral Resources and geological enterprises. I look forward to working with scientists in order to carry out reform of the entire area," Valeriy Voschevsky noted.

The official also drew attention to the need for a comprehensive audit of the potential mineral resources and mining operations’ capacity.

In his turn, Petro Hozhyk noted the high resource potential of Ukrainian mineral resources that can become a driving force for the country's exit from the economic crisis provided the rational use.

According to expert estimates, this industry provides 25 to 60% of the annual GDP of Ukraine, up to 48-50% of its industrial capacity, 20% of the workforce, as well - a significant proportion (30-40%) of foreign exchange earnings.
