Government to allocate almost UAH 100 million for the purchase of generators

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has reallocated UAH 98.7 million within the Ministry of Culture's 2026 budget. The funds will be used to purchase generators and other long-term equipment for cultural institutions, arts education establishments, and cultural heritage sites.

The decision is intended to help these institutions continue operating steadily during power outages caused by Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. Generators are needed to power shelters, ventilation systems, lighting and communications, security and fire alarm systems, video surveillance, boiler rooms, and to preserve museum collections and cultural assets.

"Amid constant Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, the cultural sector must be ready to operate under a range of scenarios. We are allocating almost UAH 100 million for generators and essential equipment for theatres, museums, libraries, arts education institutions, nature reserves, and other establishments. This will help keep shelters, security systems, lighting, and communications running, preserve museum collections, and create safer conditions for people," said Tetiana Berezhna, Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine and Minister of Culture of Ukraine.

Additional funding will be allocated as follows:

• UAH 20 million — national theatres
• UAH 18.47 million — professional pre-higher and higher arts education institutions
• UAH 15.46 million — national museums, libraries, and cultural and educational centres
• UAH 12.47 million — national artistic ensembles, concert organisations, and circus institutions
• UAH 27.41 million — national and state nature reserves
• UAH 3.84 million — general secondary and extracurricular arts education institutions
• UAH 1.03 million — the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation

The reallocation does not require additional funding from the State Budget. The financing will be provided from within the Ministry of Culture's already allocated 2026 budget, drawn from a different budget programme.

The purchase of generators will help ensure the continuous operation of these institutions during possible emergency and planned power outages, and will create safer conditions for visitors and staff.
