MIA recalls: any person to be held criminally liable for buying and selling of votes
In
the parliamentary elections in Ukraine identification and
punishment of those responsible
for penal
offenses is
one of the most urgent challenges posed by society before the law enforcement
agencies.
On
October
23, came into force the law which significantly increases penalties for crimes committed against the citizens' voting rights.
The
main purpose of the amended
provisions is to ensure effective investigation of such penal offenses and to avert these crimes.
Thus, it is significantly increased the penalty for stealing, concealing or destructing the ballot box with documents, the final election report - up to 7 years in prison. The Criminal Code provides a
similar responsibility for forgery, use or possession of fake election documents.
Moreover, the CC establishes criminal liability not only for those engaged in bribery of voters, but also those who accept payment.
