Olexandr Sych: Ukrainian Government supports the UNAIDS and UNICEF joint initiative on ending AIDS

September 26, 2014 Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sych took part in the high level meeting "Ending the AIDS epidemic among adolescents” in the framework of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly. The event concerned discussion of the issues related to fight against the AIDS epidemic among young people [aged 10-19] and a new joint initiative of UNAIDS and UNICEF for the implementation of this task called All In.

In the meeting were participating members of over twenty world countries, All In initiative key partners and initiators of it - Executive Directors of UNICEF Tony Lake and of UNAIDS Michel Sidibé. The participants emphasized the importance of measures called to prevent spread of AIDS among adolescents, they also highlighted that the condition of preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS appears a proper level of health care, education and social protection of population in each separate country.

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine confirmed complete support of the All In initiative in Ukraine and assured the readiness of our country to fruitfully cooperate targeting to facilitate making the world without AIDS and, in particular, to provide necessary assistance to the young people living with HIV.

The top official stressed that the Government pays peculiar attention to marginalized categories of the society and makes every effort to ensure their access to support services called to prevent the spread of HIV infection and combating the effects of the disease.

The Vice Prime Minister stressed the importance of cooperation between teh civil society and the Government of Ukraine in the fight against AIDS.

The initiative All In aims to develop a concrete plan to end the AIDS epidemic among adolescents infected and affected by HIV. The new global initiative will be concentrated in 25 countries, with adolescents aged 10–19 as the focus group.
