14 Japanese companies have already expressed their readiness to invest in the recovery of the Ukrainian economy: Yuliia Svyrydenko
First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko and Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Shohei Hara signed a Protocol of Discussions on the Project to Enhance Private Sector Engagement for Ukraine's Recovery.
The document provides for JICA's assistance in implementing pilot investment projects of Japanese businesses in Ukraine. Japan will also support the development of the private sector and industrial policy instruments in Ukraine. In addition, the partners stand ready to provide recommendations on how to more actively attract investment from Japanese companies.
"The signing of this document should result in the implementation of pilot investment projects by Japanese businesses in Ukraine, expert assistance from JICA to enhance the attractiveness of the Ukrainian private sector for investors, as well as recommendations for attracting investment from Japanese companies. We hope that JICA will provide technical support for the implementation of Japanese investments in Ukraine and finance the supply of Japanese equipment for projects that will be jointly identified in the course of consultations between the Ukrainian and Japanese parties. I am confident that our cooperation will soon bring very tangible and concrete results," said Yuliia Svyrydenko.
The parties also considered increasing the participation of the Japanese side in mine action, providing energy equipment to overcome the consequences of shelling of energy facilities and increase Ukraine's energy independence, as well as deepening the role of JICA in supporting investment projects. In particular, the Government looks forward to JICA's support in relaunching UkraineInvest as a single window for investment promotion.
"Ukraine is grateful to the Government of Japan and the entire Japanese people for their steadfast and unwavering support for our country. Japan has already provided over USD 12 billion in financial support and announced additional assistance for this year. I would especially like to thank them for their support in such areas as energy security, attracting private sector investment and humanitarian demining," said Yuliia Svyrydenko.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the realization of agreements already reached between the Ukrainian and Japanese public sectors and businesses. In February, 56 agreements were signed at the Tokyo Conference. Another 23 memorandums of understanding between Ukraine and Japan were signed during the Recovery Conference (URC) in Berlin.
