Yulia Svyrydenko meets with EU Commissioner Marta Kos and Minister of European Affairs of Denmark, Marie Bjerre, in Kyiv
On the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko held a meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
“This is a strong message of support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” the Head of Government noted.
Yesterday, Ukraine completed the screening of its legislation, being the fastest process of this kind in the history of the European Union. The first cluster is ready to be opened, and the goal is to make the most effective use of the three months of Denmark’s EU Council Presidency to launch all clusters this year. The Prime Minister urged the European Commission to accelerate the preparation of technical documents to accelerate the process with greater momentum.
Apart from that, during the meeting, Yulia Svyrydenko thanked partners for their financial support.
“In 2025, Ukraine has already received EUR 16.5 billion from the EU. Today, under the ERA program, we have obtained an additional EUR 4 billion and expect another EUR 4.1 billion by the end of the year. These funds allow us to allocate more domestic resources to defense and social needs, especially facing the significant financial challenges in 2026,” Yulia Svyrydenko stated.
Ukraine supports Ursula von der Leyen’s initiative for a Reparations Loan based on frozen russian assets.
“The aggressor must pay, and the mechanism should be flexible — allowing funds to be directed to defense, social expenditures, and the country’s reconstruction,” Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized.
The parties also discussed key reforms: ensuring the independence of anti-corruption bodies, increasing institutional transparency, and introducing new business regulations.
The Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine is implementing reforms even under the challenging conditions of war, particularly regarding the independence of anti-corruption bodies, institutional transparency, and new business rules: “We count on continued support from parliamentarians for government initiatives to pave the way for EU membership.”
