Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko held a meeting with key representatives of the petroleum products market, during which the participants coordinated further actions in connection with the current situation on the fuel market, which is mainly due to external factors.

“Our common task is to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel in the country. The Government expects market operators — both the state-run company Ukrnafta and private businesses — to ensure that the market is sufficiently supplied with fuel and that it is stably available to consumers throughout the country,” Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized.

According to her, fuel prices should be set fairly, taking into account the current situation, particularly on global markets, but without internal speculation.

The Head of the Ukrainian Government stressed that Ukrnafta would serve as a benchmark for fair prices on the market. Regulatory authorities, in particular the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, must properly monitor the price situation and respond to cases of possible speculation in the market. However, it is essential to ensure that their work does not create undue pressure or obstacles for conscientious businesses."

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal has been tasked with ensuring daily coordination with market representatives based at the Ministry of Energy for the prompt resolution of current issues, in particular those arising in the work of market operators.

Separately, Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksii Sobolev, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy, are working on possible support models for those categories of consumers who will most urgently need assistance in connection with the significant increase in prices for petroleum products.
