Government sets out immediate steps to strengthen support for veterans

A meeting of the Coordination Council attended by Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov, representatives of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, Government officials and the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights set out immediate steps to strengthen state policy on veterans’ affairs, Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi announced.

“Supporting veterans is one of the state’s key responsibilities,” the Prime Minister said.

According to him, around UAH 18.5 billion is expected to be allocated in the 2027 state budget to support veterans. Ukraine currently has more than 1.5 million veterans.

Following the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed Minister for Veterans Affairs Vitalii Kim to:

  • step up work with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to secure the adoption of the Code on Defenders of Ukraine’s Statehood;
  • develop proposals for a housing programme for veterans who are internally displaced;
  • expand veterans’ access to healthcare, rehabilitation and prosthetic services.

“The President has set clear objectives, and specific areas of work have been identified to strengthen support for veterans and their families,” Sergii Koretskyi emphasised.
