The Government has decided to designate the State Property Fund as the managing body for 1,592 railcars that belonged to russian companies and were seized in Ukraine. In the future, this property shall be transferred to Ukrzaliznytsia for use. Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko announced.

According to her, the Government's decision launches a mechanism for the seizure of the aggressor state's property and its further use for the benefit of Ukraine.

"The estimated value of the confiscated railcars is about UAH 2.2 billion. Those are operational and can be used until the end of their service life for freight transportation, including for defense needs," Yulia Svyrydenko said.

The railcars belonged to sanctioned residents of the russian federation, in particular VEB-Leasing, the state development corporation VEB.RF, JSC State Transport Leasing Company, JSC Nord, a subsidiary of Sberbank Leasing, as well as other russian companies in the field of finance and logistics.

Before the full-scale invasion in 2022, the russians used them to transport goods across Ukraine and European Union countries. After the start of hostilities, they remained on Ukrainian territory and were seized.

Last year, by decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, enacted by a decree of the President of Ukraine and approved by law, they were confiscated.

“We also continue to work with international partners to ensure that the enemy is held accountable for all damages caused and that confiscated assets are used for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Ukraine,” the Head of Government emphasized.
