St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv has been transferred to the Roman Catholic community for use. This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
"This historic decision was made possible thanks to the long-term work of team of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna, members of parliament, the religious community, and many others involved. The parish will have more opportunities to rebuild the church, unite in prayer, and support the life of the religious community here,“ said Yulia Svyrydenko. ”The enemy has not succeeded in dividing us along religious lines. Representatives of different faiths stood side by side in the church today, praying together for our soldiers, for victory, and for a just peace for Ukraine."
St. Nicholas Church is a cultural heritage site of national importance. It survived a fire during World War II, the difficult decades of the Soviet period, and withstood the impact of a russian missile nearby in 2024 during a full-scale invasion.
Despite all the trials, the church has stood firm and continues to be a symbol of spiritual resilience for the capital and the entire country.
The Government will continue to support the equality of all parishes in Ukraine and ensure freedom of conscience.
