On February 28, the first All-Ukrainian martial arts competition among schoolchildren "Combat Games" kicked off in Kyiv. The winners of the competition will represent Ukraine at the ISF World Schools Combat Games 2019.
On behalf of the Government Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Viacheslav Kyrylenko congratulated the participants and wished them success in the competitions and he also emphasized that the main thing is participation of young people in sports games.
"Some of you will win in these competitions and will bring glory to our state at the World Games. But the main thing is that you are interested in sports and you take care of health and physical development. This brings happiness for your parents, trainers and for the whole country", the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
President of the Sports Committee of Ukraine Ilya Shevlyak, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Roman Greba, the champions and medal winners of the European and World championships also came to support young athletes.
Combat Games are aimed at stimulating the development of physical culture and sports in general secondary educational institutions. 7,200 boys and girls from 24 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv took part in the qualifying competition. 1,100 of them compete today for taking part in the World Combat Games or schoolchildren "ISF World Schools Combat Games 2019", which will be held in Budapest (Hungary) from June 16-21. They will compete in five sports: free-style and Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo.
