Deputy Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko visited the hospitals of Zhytomyr, Rivne and Sarny on Saturday.
Viktor Lyashko personally spoke with doctors, nurses, junior medical staff. They will assist patients with suspected COVID-19. During the visit, it was important to understand the readiness of the hospitals and, most importantly, the readiness of the medical staff. This applies to both professional skills and moralities. Doctors are ready to provide all necessary medical care to patients with coronavirus infection. If necessary, health professionals are prepared to work overtime. All staff is well informed of what to do in the case if COVID-19 is confirmed. All 3 cities have already completed at least 2-3 training courses. Doctors also said that they worked out the mechanisms even in the pandemic flu when a sufficiently large number of patients needed intensive care.
There are isolation rooms in hospitals of Zhytomyr, Rivne and Sarny that are specifically for patients with the suspension of coronavirus. Such rooms are currently empty and ready to receive patients at any time. For example, in Rivne, they have already been visited by 4 persons with the suspension of COVID-19 but they have been tested negatively. The algorithm of action is fulfilled, the doctors agree - everything is planned correctly and logically.
The algorithm of resuscitation procedures is already shaped in the said hospitals.
There are intensive care units (ICU) in the hospital in Zhytomyr, and there is an action plan in case of an emergency. In Rivne, by the end of next week, the ICUs in the infectious disease ward will be fully prepared. In case of urgent need, other wards of the hospital are ready for admission of patients.
It should be recalled that Ukraine has no confirmed cases of COVID-19.
The medical system of Ukraine is ready to react to the cases of coronavirus infection.
We have about 12,000 beds in infectious hospitals, isolation rooms, 2,000 infectious disease doctors, 5,000 medical staff working in infectious hospitals.
