Viktor Liashko visits Kharkiv region with focus on key infrastructure projects
Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko made a working visit to Kharkiv region, where he reviewed the work of several medical facilities and progress on key infrastructure projects.
“We are continuing to modernise the healthcare system even amid the full-scale war. More than UAH 1.1 billion has been allocated to Kharkiv region this year for nine public investment projects in healthcare. Our task is to ensure that people have access to high-quality medical care, regardless of how close they live to the front line. It is therefore important to see progress on the ground and work with regional and hospital leaders to resolve promptly any issues that arise during implementation,” Minister Viktor Liashko said.
At the Regional Oncology Centre, the installation of an Elekta Harmony linear accelerator was completed in July. The equipment was purchased by Medical Procurement of Ukraine at the request of the Ministry of Health using state budget funds. Work is now under way on a room for a CT simulator used to plan radiotherapy with the linear accelerator. Construction of protective structures and new buildings is also continuing. Each year, the centre treats around 40,000 outpatients and records more than 30,000 hospital admissions.
At the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, major repairs to the admissions and diagnostic department are under way, alongside the creation of a ten-bed psychiatric ward and the construction of a protective structure and a new medical lift. The hospital treats more than 18,000 children, performs over 4,000 operations and provides more than 37,000 outpatient consultations each year.
At the Regional Clinical Hospital, construction continues on the Ark underground hospital and shelter, while the operating suite is undergoing major repairs. Refurbishment of the surgical, stroke and neurosurgical departments is also planned.
Over the past three years, the state has invested more than UAH 2.3 billion in healthcare infrastructure and equipment in Kharkiv region. Between 2020 and 2026, the region’s medical facilities received 3,965 items of medical and laboratory equipment worth more than UAH 1 billion in total. These included two MRI scanners, 14 CT scanners, two angiography systems, two linear accelerators, 35 X-ray machines and 64 medical vehicles.
During the visit, Viktor Liashko also toured the Lozova Territorial Medical Association, a cluster hospital providing care to more than 100,000 people from the local community and neighbouring districts, as well as internally displaced people. A modern MRI scanner purchased by Medical Procurement of Ukraine at the Ministry’s request using state budget funds is now operational at the hospital. It will allow around ten scans to be performed each day.
With support from partners, the hospital is also strengthening its energy independence. Alternative power sources allow surgery, intensive care and emergency treatment to continue during power cuts.
