Ukraine demonstrates a positive trend towards reduction in the number of new cases of COVID-19 – outcomes of the conference call

The issues of counteracting the spread of the COVID-19 infectious disease on the territory of Ukraine were discussed during a conference call chaired by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Ministry of Health, there is a positive trend in Ukraine towards a reduction in the number of new cases of COVID-19 and the number of hospitalized citizens. Last week, 24,419 people were taken to hospitals, while in the previous weeks, 32,000 people were hospitalized. In addition, for the first time in the last 14 weeks, the number of fatalities decreased compared to the previous week.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal raised the issue of providing the regions with the necessary drugs for the treatment of COVID-19.

"It is critical to study in detail the situation in each institution and to redistribute drugs where necessary," the Head of Government stressed.

Minister of Health Viktor Liashko said that for the fourth week in a row in Ukraine there was observed a high level of vaccination against COVID-19. Last week, 1,718,000 vaccinations were given.

"Today we have a positive signal. According to indicators, Lviv and Luhansk regions are already coming out of the "red" level of epidemic danger," Viktor Lyashko said.

The National Police said that checks on compliance with quarantine rules and detection of forged COVID documents were underway in Ukraine. 14,000 personnel were involved in the raids. So, last week documents on suspicion of 15 medical workers in commission of 38 criminal offenses were sent. Dozens of other cases are pending. Last week, 13 searches were also conducted at travel agencies.

On the outcomes of the meeting, the relevant ministries and agencies were tasked to work on strengthening the control over the verification of COVID certificates using their QR codes.
