Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko took part online in the high-level expert discussion "Renewables to power post-war Ukraine", which was held today in Brussels. European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, Deputy Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community Dirk Buschle, international and Ukrainian industry experts were participating in the event.

German Galushchenko emphasized that green transformation would be at the center of Ukraine's post-war recovery. Decarbonization of Ukraine's energy sector is planned to be carried out, in particular, thanks to the development of safe and carbon-neutral nuclear energy. It is also intended gradual abandoning coal-fired power plants, development of renewable energy sources, and deployment of accumulating capacities.

"Our goal is to build 7.1 GW of new capacities of renewable energy sources, switching to market models of stimulating green energy, in particular, green auctions. We also plan to install 750 MW of storage capacity at the first stage. This will increase the stability of the energy system," German Galushchenko stressed.

The development of hydrogen energy can make a significant contribution to the green transformation. "We are considering 10 GW of hydrogen export from Ukraine to the EU, which was determined by the European Commission as our starting indicator," the Minister noted.

"Having received the status of a candidate for joining the European Union, we should think about achieving the goals of the European Green Deal simultaneously with other EU states. We will develop our policy with full respect for European legislation, our future obligations regarding the EU membership and in full coordination with our European partners," concluded German Galushchenko.
