Final regional hearings held in Poltava as part of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations in the agricultural sector
The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine has completed preparations for bilateral meetings with the European Commission as part of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiation process.
In particular, under the leadership of Deputy Minister Denys Bashlyk, the final regional hearings on Chapters 11, 12, and 13 – covering the agricultural sector – were held in Poltava as part of Ukraine’s preparations for EU accession negotiations.
The event was attended by over 100 representatives of agricultural and agro-processing enterprises from Poltava, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions.
Key topics discussed included rural development, ensuring proper animal welfare and advancing dairy processing, as well as Ukraine’s integration into the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy.
“European integration opens new opportunities for Ukrainian small and medium-sized farms to access European markets. We aim to provide farmers with the necessary knowledge, tools, and state support to effectively integrate into the EU market and fully realise the potential of their products,” said Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
As previously reported, regional hearings took place in Lviv on 14 August 2025 and in Odesa on 22 August 2025.
Background
Bilateral meetings between Ukraine and the European Commission on negotiation Chapters 11 (“Agriculture and Rural Development”, 08–10 September 2025), 12 (“Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Policy”, 15–19 September 2025), and 13 (“Fisheries and Aquaculture”, 25–26 September 2025) will take place in Brussels (Kingdom of Belgium) as part of the official screening of Ukraine’s legislation compliance with EU law. During these meetings, Ukrainian experts will present the progress of aligning Ukrainian legislation with EU legal acts.
