Ukraine expects to receive EUR 2.5 billion of the next tranche of the EU macro-financial assistance next week. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a press conference following a meeting with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis.
"The Government of Ukraine also welcomes the decision of the European Commission to launch a new instrument of EU microfinancing for Ukraine in 2023 to the tune of EUR 18 bn. In a time of war, such support is essential for us. The provision of these resources to Ukraine will allow the Government to finance expenditures, in particular in the humanitarian and social spheres," Denys Shmyhal stressed.
According to the Prime Minister,on the outcome of today's negotiations, Ukraine expects to obtain the first part of EU funding under the "Macro-Financial Assistance Plus" in January 2023.
The talks between Denys Shmyhal and Valdis Dombrovskis also focused on the next steps towards Ukraine's membership in the EU and the issue of Ukraine's recovery after the victory.
"Today's fruitful negotiations are evidence of the strategic cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, as well as the steadfast course of our country on the path to membership in the European Union," the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.
Among other things, the parties addressed the development of trade relations, particularly in the context of deepening Ukraine's integration into the EU single market. An agreement was reached to revise the Priority Action Plan for the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
In addition, the Prime Minister noted that Ukraine counts on the financial and technical assistance of the European Union to restore the energy sector of our country, which has been under missile attacks by the russian federation.
