Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nishchuk met with Oleg Yakymchuk, Director of interaction with public authorities at Google Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by the director of interaction with the state authorities at CFC Consulting Oleksyi Sivak and project managers of the company.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects of Ukraine's inclusion in the Google Digital Literacy Program.
At the moment, Google pays considerable attention to the use of digital capabilities to preserve unique cultural and historical heritage. One of the largest in this area is the free book digitization campaign, which has already captured dozens of millions of best-selling literary works and unique, old-fashioned editions stored in leading libraries in Europe and the United States. During the campaign, such books are scanned and translated into electronic format, followed by placing on the Internet.
According to representatives of CFC Consulting, this project is slated to be implemented within one and a half or two years, which will allow the opening of the voluminous Ukrainian literature to the world.
The meeting participants touched upon other projects of Google Ukraine, among others, a series of educational projects on the basis of digital literacy and Internet security. They also expressed their interest in expanding cooperation in the field of inclusive education and integration of people with special needs in the cultural and artistic environment - creating a map of accessibility of cultural institutions, 3D-tours by libraries, etc.
